I think i'm hooked. This style of fishing is fairly new to me but i learn fast i guess... :p Nothin like feeling that thump, sometimes hard, somtimes soft, but i set the hook anyways with high percentage of pulling in a fish. You never know exactly what u have unless you can tell by feel what your pulling up. Sauger tend to hit harder that crappie, until you get a white bass or kentucky, then your really guessing... But lots of fun!! There is an art to river bank fishing, so many variables, but once you find the right break & depth & color, it can really be Blast!

I'm guessing that you were jigging off bottom in the rocks? Here at lock 12 where I fish for a couple of weeks now i can get to the river fishing at about 3:30 and by dark I will usually have a limit of crappie and a few sauger. Depending on how cold it is, I will usually stay a little after dark and squeeze out a limit of sauger too. How deep were you catching them and what color?

I really think they like this charchuse and red metal jig. 1/16. Charchuse and white does well also. The depth varies, but from what i noticed you want your jig(s) to hit bottom and slow roll them along the bottom with slight upward motions until... BAM!! LOL! You are so right about evening fishing, rite before dark, they seem to turn on... PM me ARSlabber.

We've been doing well all fall into winter at 4. Crappie have slowed the last 2 weeks and the sauger picked up.

Red and chartreuse are hard to beat on the river.
