I was wade fishing in a pond back when I was a teenager and bumped into a red wasp nest in a cypress tree. After the first one stung me I dove under the water and swam off. I lost my rod and reel and did not go back to find them.
There i was just doing what i like to do best, catching crappie. I was casting with a cork & jig and working it around structure. I made this one particular cast that hit a tree limb that was the home of some (at the time) not so friendly Red Wasps!! I noticed that they seemed to be curious as to why i hit their nest with my bobber and jig and wanted a face-to-face consultation... Sooo, I had to make an excutive decision, Get stung, or Get Wet.... My choice was to NOT get stung! I dove on the water!! Luckly, the Wasp didn't seem too aggressive anymore and a fellow fisherman who witness to whole thing helped me back in to my 2man boat. Thankfully, the water wasn't that cold and the temp was about 75 degress that day... All and All, i felt embarassed more than anything...Doh But at end the day, i got FISH!:o
Nothing like them FILLETS wrapped in your favorite Cornmeal Jackets...:D

As a kid we would find a wasp nest, knock it down and pull out the white larvae out and use them for bait. Creek fishing they was some of the best bait. But then we got our worms from under old boards around the barn and yes, carried the worms in prince albert cans. Now for the distance I walked to school and how deep the snow was! uphill both ways
good 1
I have never teed them off that bad, but had a few close calls here on COnway a few times. They just love an 11 foot jig pole punched into there nest.LOL

Nice story
Thats a funny story. It reminds me of the time I saw a clip of Bill Dance diving in the water to escape the wrath of a bunch of mad wasps. Stay dry!
I was on Petit Jean river on a cold day, 35 degrees maybe, and I saw a hornets nest , so I wanted to take it home with me. I was trying to break it off when I heard a HMMMMMMMMM sound. I threw my motor in gear and took off and run as fast as I could when I heard them again as they pulled up beside me. Luckily they gave up and I went on. They will fly in cold weather.
It ain't nuttin but luck.
