Early spring on Nimrod, if the water comes up you can tear up Catfish and Crappie on yoyos.
Why not just pole fish grasshopper? Looking to fill a freezer? Come up when we have our build and learn some spots.
My Father-in-Law and me are looking for a new lake to overnight camp at (primitive) and run some yoyos, noodles, and maybe fish over lights on.
We prefer something that has lots of trees (for the yoyos and crappie cover) and a place that's not going to be super crowded. Last year we fished Old Town Lake. Enjoyed it, but it's a really good drive to get there.
I'm not asking for GPS coordinates, which wouldn't matter anyways. Our boat has no fish-finder/depth-finder so we'd be "sight fishing". Would pretty much be going in cold turkey.
Getting a few fish, either cats or crappie (preferred) would make us happy.
Any tips or pointers?

If you don't mind a bit of a drive Lake Chicot is really good. You can camp at the state park and there are lots of trees across the lake from the camp ground. There is also a marina at the park where you can park your boat. Cane Creek is another good place. There is also a state park there. It is good for catfish and ok for crappie. Just some suggestions.
Lake Conway, Either Greens Lake or Dix Creek, both have primitive camping areas and lots of cypress trees to hang yo-yo's.
You can't beat the taste of them ole fried SLABS N TATERS!!
Peckerwood Lake, but it's pretty expensive to camp...Word is out that it might be selling. The man that owns it sold all his John Deere dealerships and word is out that Peckerwood is selling too..but its just a rumor..
I hope that's just a rumer!! We are running out of good holes...
Nothing like them FILLETS wrapped in your favorite Cornmeal Jackets...:D
I thought Frank Lyon owned Peckerwood. Didn't know he was into John Deere dealerships! Anyway, even if it sells it ought to stay open for daily fee fishing, wouldn't you think?
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!
Frank Lyon does own Peckerwood. Yes he sold his John Deere dealerships, no he is not selling Wingmeade. That is a bad rumor. Peckerwood great fishing!!!
Hambone is that you? From another form.
Well, if I know you, and even if I don't. Welcome aboard man.
Let's go fishing!
