    Default Unknown Lake

Hey guys: I just read in the new Arkansas Sportsman mag about Lake Ashbaugh. Anyone fished it? Is there camping available and if there is what's it like. Tent or can you bring an RV? Article says you can bank fish but also can use a boat? What would you suggest? I need a good crappie fix, after the big freeze a couple of weeks ago. Could be nightstalk material. Tight Lines!

I haven't fished it in years, can tell what little I know.
Its a man made lake, water has to be pumped in to keep it full, ramps on both ends, fishing dock on the north end, bait shop on the south end.
They drained it a few years ago and restocked and don't know if the bait shop is still open or not. You'll need to read the game&fish book as this lake has specail rules on bass, don't remeber seeing any camping area's.I'm sure tho you can park a rv or set a tent somewhere in the parking area's,south end mosty paved, north end gravel.Deeper water on all sides as to where they dug the dirt to dam the lake.Used to be a old slough that run though it on the south end,it has alot of tree stumps and snags though out the lake.
The reason I haven't fished in years the crappie all run small, after draining and restocking it could have better fish in it now.Out of all my fishing partners none of them wants to go if I say how about going to lake Ashbaugh, they too fished it years ago.
When the lake was made they wanted it to be a special bass lake and I'm sure this is what they still want.It never happened, most bass ran small and alot of them, its the reason you need to read the rules on what you can keep.On the north end parking area you can unload on the other side of the lake into flooded timber for duckhunters. This area has water in it year round and little small area's of open water can be found, good fishing at times.
Heard last week before it iced over they were catching crappie off the fishing dock and running in the one pound range.

Thanks turtlebait, I think the wife and will take a drive over there one day and check it out. Maybe just the spot for the grandkids to bank fish and have a chance of hooking a nice crappie. Thanks again, tight lines.

Lake Ashbaugh hit the limelight in 1984 and 1985 when a string of state-record tiger muskies were caught there. This is the only Arkansas lake where this cross between the northern pike and muskellunge has been stocked.

Good to see you still after em Flyfinger.

I guess you saw that you and Jackie Lewellen's honey hole broke loose floated down river and a large portion of it colaspsed on CEB's honey hole. I told him it would make his spot twice as good.

Hope you do well on the new lake and post us some nice pics of full coolers.
