    Default Raw Sewage

Is there raw sewage that runs into Conway Lake? I know years ago Moon Lake, Ms. had that. I lived on a lake in Ms. about 20 years ago, and found out that two old houses on that lake were grandfathered in that allowed that. I stopped fishing that lake don't you know...

They used to dump Conway city sewer in a creek that ran into it was told. A few years back I saw on the news where officals flew over and used infer red photo to find septic problems from houses around the lake and made them repair ? I prefer not eat eat fish from most shallow woody lakes near towns or surrounded by farm land because of lower water quality or containation . But nothing is sqeaky clean these days . Even Lakes like Nimrod where it is fed by mountain streams and no big cities has been found to have mercury containation in the fish . You never know what is in any waters because Forest Service , timber companies , farmers , and individuals have used chemicals like herbicides and pesticides . Runoff from livestock and septic systems. We have had in years past wood treating plants in remote spots that had runoff problems . Nothing is 100% free of contamintion in our modern world .

Prime example a couple years back we had a bad green algea bloom which shut down swimming in Nimrod . Most could not understand why it happened . When you have a high nutrient load hit the water is causes a algea bloom . This mostly likely human or animal wastes . It just so happened we had a large rain in July . Local farmers spread animal wastes such as Poultry litter , hog manure ,and cattle manure on hay fields alot during summer . If we get a big rain about the same time it can get washed into streams and into our lakes .

There used to be several houses around Lake Conway that had their septic lines running into the lake. The EPA put a stop to that years ago and made everybody put in new systems. They do periodic testing of the water now to make sure that it is clean. There hasn't been an issue in years that I am aware of.

I think what Nimrod is referring to is there used to be a water treatment plant that released the clean water back into one of the creeks that dumps into Conway. That plant is no longer operational. That was a huge source of nutrients for the lake and I believe one of the reasons why it has been so productive. Losing that source is NOT a good thing, as some may think.

Yep Conway is disgusting, fish at your own risk... I have ate soo many i have become addicted and immune to it tho. But there is still time for you guys. I really care about your all's health. Don't forget the oil spill a coupla years ago also. I just feel compelled to tell you all that you may want to fish elsewhere for health reasons. I really do care about your health.
