Drew Central visits the Grove tomorrow night for the final regular season game. The Hornets will be a #3 seed behind Smackover and Fordyce (#1 and #3 in the state). We're currently #6 in the state according to Hooten's. We'll host a playoff game on November 13, but our opponent hasn't been determined yet. It's already been a great season! Hoping it keeps going until Thanksgiving.............

We're home just ahead of the rain. Harmony Grove 56 - Drew Central 6 was the final tonight. One player for DC left in an ambulance during the first half. He walked over to it, but the young man was hurt just the same. Hoping he is OK. No injuries on our side. We had three freshmen who moved up since Jr. High is over and all three made plays and had their names called several times. We also had another kid score his first TD ever and another throw his first TD pass ever. Hornets end the regular season 7-3 ranked #6 in the state in 3A. MUCH better than last year's 3-7 record at this same time. Playoffs start next week. GTT

Atkins will travel to Harmony Grove next Friday to open the playoffs. Don't know much about the Red Devils, but I'll find out on November 13.

#77, #78, #79 are our three big sophomore starters on the O-line. The only game they were stymied in this year was the Fordyce game, otherwise these three opened up holes to run through. They're all good kids too and I think they'll all three play in college somewhere if they want to. They've got the grades for it also. GTT

Bryant closed out regular season with a 9-1 record with that comes a first round bye as the #1 seed in the 7-a central. Up next will be the winner of west Memphis and Fayetteville game will travel to Bryant to play. Hope the week off doesn't hurt the team. Gonna be hard on Mom and Dad since it's Sr. Yr and we know the high school career is almost over. He has the opportunity to play on the next level. Been on a couple visits already and has 1 this weekend at the battle of the Ravine. He said he's not sure he wants to play after high school. That's only a choice he can make, hope he makes that one that makes him happy. Very proud of him either way. Good luck to everyone and go Hornets

I noticed Bryant beat Conway last week. Saw the highlights on TV. 9-1 is superb. I know you and your wife are proud of your son and his accomplishments and I also know you'll be sad when it's over, win or lose. If he wanted to play in college, I would be thrilled, but if he didn't.......I wouldn't lose sleep over it. It's his decision. I've seen John get up on Saturday mornings moaning and groaning about being sore and banged up. The older they get, the bigger they get and those hits take their toll. I wish you all luck in the playoffs! Go Hornets!!!!

I'm sure I'll cry when John and his Hornets are done for good in 2017. I've been watching these guys since 3rd grade peewee. I have a picture of John that I took the first afternoon of his very first peewee practice. He told me on the way to practice that day that he was afraid he might not be good and get to play. Coach raved over him that first practice and he played both ways nearly every play of every game. His peewee coaches loved him because he only had to be told once what to do and where to line up. They let him run in 2 point conversions.......that was called "2 Ton." His 3rd-6th grade peewee career ended with a 33-3 record. They went undefeated in 4th grade and won the Super Bowl over Junction City 16-14 on a 2 point conversion with just a few seconds to go. They defeated Smackover in the semis 14-12 and most of those kids are on the #1 ranked Smackover team now. He told me on the way to a Junction City that morning that he was afraid they might lose. Well, they didn't and no one can ever take that championship Saturday away from them. 7th grade was a bust, but they got back on track in Jr. High and are getting better and stronger each week. 9th grade year, he got pulled up to snap for the Senior High team and now he's a 10th grade 2 year letterman. He's really comfortable with the rest of his friends there with him this year and it's been a great year, even with the losses.

I can't imagine what emotions I'll feel when it's finally over.

Harmony Grove 28 - Atkins 21. HG was picked to win by 21 by Hooten's, but Atkins came in and played a very good game. HG advances to play at West Fork next Friday night. Yep, I'll be making that long 5 hour trip there and back the same night as we have a wedding to go to on Saturday. Good job tonight Hornets! GTT

Here's an old Hornet PeeWee picture from 2009. That's Big John running the football out of the "2 Ton" offensive set. Man, I miss those days! That was the undefeated Super Bowl year! Maybe they can keep it going tomorrow night. GTT
