I love my Minnkota Maxxum variable speed 24 volt but might be much for smaller boat. Those maximizers built in extends run time on a battery charge.

Changed mine out for a Terrova 55 with I pilot. Best move I ever made, don't have to run over half speed unless cranking.

As big a terrova as the pocketbook will stand.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

    Default trolling motor?

I have a 12v 55 pound thrust Maxxum and love it. It is plenty of power for a 16' boat. would have went with the 24v 65 pound trust if I could have out a 3rd battery in the boat.

I have an 18 x 60 aluminum boat with 24" sides. I've got an 80 lb Minn Kota Maxxum (24 volt) and I love it. It's plenty of motor to fish in the heaviest wind and I have no problem with the batteries lasting all day. If the wind is not a problem, I can fish at least 2 days on a charge.

I had a 55 lb Maxxum (12 volt) and it was not enough. I had to run it pretty fast in any wind.

That's just my 2 cents and what I like and why I have it.
