There are some counties in Missouri that allow open carry. Every year my Dad and Uncles and I float and fish the Eleven Point River in southern Missouri. We have sidearms holstered on our hips not because we feel threatened by anyone, but because open carry is allowed in this county. It should be allowed in the whole country (IMO). I carry a pistol over 90% of the time. I almost feel naked when it is not on me.

I understand completely! I have my carry conceal, and carry almost constantly as well. I just think someone may try something not knowing I was carrying and I would have to use it. If it were on my side in plain site, "I think" it would never have to be used. One would think no one wud try to rob a guy with a gun on their hip. But then again, I work the ER and its suprising how crazy some people are. I wonder how some survive from day to day.

Thanks... a lot of talk about open carry in Texas. Have seen a few rallies with long rifles/AR15s here in Austin lately. With Austin being a liberal bastion in Texas, a lot of Austinites get their underwear in a wad. I'm ok with that.. .

for those of you who have never done it, when you take a life your life is changed forever and mostly not in a good way. Unless you are completely numb you will spend the rest of your life replaying your actions in your mind and wondering what you could have done differently. You will never be the same.

This is a good point, but I imagine that your life would change forever also if a loved one was killed and you could have done something about it, if you had something to defend them with.

There is a quick mart in Batesville, where the owner carries a pistol on his hip at all times and in plain sight. I actually feel safer there than otherwise. It's not uncommon for me to think, when in a quick mart, that it's potentially an easy target for robbery and I usually have a little bit of heightened alertness while there. I think a visible weapon is about as good as it gets to deter a robbery, usually by an idiot who suddenly becomes a little wiser when he sees it.
