    Default Mercury 4 stroke

My dad is thinking about buying a brand new bass boat. He is looking a boat with a 60hp Mercury four stroke on it. Looking for some input on these new Mercury 4 stroke. My dads is type of guy that holds on to things. So he is wondering if the new 4 stroke motors would be a long lasting, dependable, worry free motor.

BRM, doesn't Tohatsu make the smaller Mercurys? I had a 25 Merc that was made by Tohatsu and it was rock solid for 14 years and still going strong when I traded it.
If I was looking at a solid motor I would go with the Yamahas. They are hard to beat.
BRM will treat you right with the best rig for your needs.
A good dealer is as important as the motor in most cases.

Yes, Tohatsu makes all the Mercs from the 30 down. One reason I don't need Merc. I have the Tohatsu.

The Yamaha is the stuff. A bit more money, but a NICE engine.

We have a couple of 4 stroke mercurys at work. The 25hp has been a great motor. No issues at all. The 40hp is the complete opposite. It has been nothing but trouble for us. Anything an everything that could go wrong with a motor had gone wrong with this one. We could have bought a new motor with all of the repair money we have spent on it. I will NEVER buy a mercury motor again. As others have said, go with the Yamaha. They are great motors.

Bought a Yamaha 70 4stroke last year. Love it. See BRM he will not steer your wrong. Don't know price comparisons, but a few extra bucks won't make much difference if you plan on having it long term anyway.

Just didn't need the evinrude with the Tohatsu being a 2 stroke fuel injected engine for a lot less money, and a 2year longer warranty. Had a few issues with them also. Now that the new Suzuki 4 stroke 25's and 30's are lighter than the evinrude 2 stroke and are now 3 cylinder instead of a 2 cylinder, I didn't need the evinrude small engines either. All of the Suzuki engines are Battey Less Fuel injected engines which means they are the only EFI engines you can get in a manual start, or that will still run if your battery dies. The electric start smaller engines also come with a pull start on them too. Mercury 4 stroke

BTW, I've sold over 400 Suzuki's, and have NEVER had a single warranty claim.
