I guess I'm different. I was discussing this on another forum.

I already know the degree of valor of our military. But........I just cringe at the thought of sitting in a movie theater and watching so many of our men die, and only one getting out.

I've stood on this side of The Wall (Vietnam Memorial) and thought about how I was standing on the wrong side of it. I honestly belonged on the other side. I don't deserve to be on this side. To see the names I was in Basic Training with........just too much. I'm sure this is a good movie, and I am glad it glorifies our troops, who deserve it. But I personally am just not strong enough to watch it.

I really don't pay much attention to what is playing. But, this movie was brought to my attention this morning during an interveiw with the director. Fox was trying to get him riled up about what some liberal yuppy critic had to say about it. He was very galant. Now, I need to see it.

I can only imagine what that wall stirs up. I was about 10 years too young to be called to serve. But, I have actually lived through some of the experiences with an older bro-in-law when he had flash backs. Back in the late '70s/early '80s his mind would litteraly go back to the horrors and I was called several times by his wife to help bring him back. I remember digging fragments out of his face that would work them self back to the surface. They divorced and he moved away. I haven't seen or talked to him in close to 30 years. But, I will never forget the horror in his eyes when his mind took him back.
Thank you and all of those like you. You should never be forgotten.

I didn't do anything. I was in, but I didn't go "over there". But I SHOULD have, and somehow I got out of it, and that's what haunts me. I just don't want any glory, I did nothing but shuffle papers. But you are right, they did a lot, and got spit on for it when they got home. But I don't want anyone thinking I said I did anything worthy of any admiration, I did not. But they did.

You answered the call. Many didn't.

Restrepo is a great documentary... I liked lone survivor, but couldn't imagine being a family member of one of those guys and seeing that.. The movie is gruesome, I wouldn't take my kids to see it.

It really makes you appreciate what some of those signed up for, and many we don't ever know about.

I went with my son and Grandson when we were on our annual golf trip to the beach. Had about 12 of us go see it, My son commented when we were leaving that it was like watching 2 hours of the first 30 minutes of "Saving Private Ryan." It was a great movie but very intense. Definitely not a "Chick Flick".

Backrub, I also am standing on the wrong side of the wall. I answered the call, actually was not called, I volunteered and would do it again. Would go today if they would accept a 70 yr. old has been. The movie is intense, to say the least, and makes one proud to be American and have such people as those guys. The world needs to realize that we are not going to lay down and take it's crap. Will buy this movie when it comes out on DVD.
