Thread: Crappie Structure. Will this work?

Hey RCC question:

In the three graph pics, the hard return just to the left of your "0" line, is that your lower unit causing that or the proximity to the hull?

Looks fishy, but since I can't read a graph worth two cents I'll ask, are there fish on it?

I'm actually not sure what you are calling a hard return. The clouds are the back wash from the trolling motor and they are not there when the big motor is running. The bright strip may be from proximity to the hull, but I don't think it's the lower unit since on further out the beam is not blocked. I've got a little interference from something. It may be the two sonars running at the same time. I think I've cut the trolling motor before to see if that is what it was.

What I am calling the hard return is the bright yellow line right next to the black surface line, in the middle of your clouds. Is this graph from the unit on your trolling motor or the one on the stern of the boat? As for noise, have you tried a choke on the power line to the unit, i.e. a toroid core? Just wondering, I see the same hard return on my stern mounted unit, but not the clouds. I also have similar shading up close to the boat that is significantly reduced when I trim the big motor up out of the water, but it makes boat control to much of a pain, so I guess I will live with the local shading just to the left of the black surface line, doesn't seem to affect remote objects or anything. Sorry, did that come out right? Think my mind is running about two paragraphs in front of my fingers. Guess I need to learn to type faster.

We did catch a few small crappie off of it, but nothing worth writing home about. Wind was blowing like crazy and we were have trouble telling when we got bit. There were better spots.


I don't know what the bright line is.
