Good luck.How'de it go?
No, heading out tonight. We decided to skip Rosy since there haven't been any good reports on the crappie yet. We are going to hit your home ground Bruce and spend the evening on Saguaro
Gonna see if I can load the boat. We aren't picky either. We'll take anything you can eat lol
Catfish, Bluegill, Yellow Bass, Walleye..........
Good luck.How'de it go?

Well, it was ok. We caught several bluegill to start. probably 8-10 between us just as it was getting dark. I landed an under LMB. Probably 11-12". Then we each caught 1 yellow bass. Something took one of his lines and snapped it and we each got hits on our catfish rigs but neither of us landed them. So, we caught a few fish but it was a little disappointing. I went again last night by myself and threw out some lights but never got more than 1 bite. Tons of plankton and nice shad balls too. Fishfinder was telling me that there were quite a few fish coming through but I couldn't buy a bite to save my life. Well, not true. I did get one bite and he stole my minnow. I had one pole in with a bobber and the minnow on a jig at 6-7' deep which is where most of the fish were cruising through the shad, and another minnow on a splitshot at or near the bottom. Sadly, I got nada Well, at least I didn't fall in the lake lol
Have you ever made it up to the cove that I told you about,up at Canyon?

You know Bruce, I am not sure I know which cove you were talking about. I think I was there a few weeks back but someone else was fishing in it so I moved on. Not sure if that was the right one though? According to this map it was Crucifix Gorge

Is that the one?
Russ Cove according to that map. There is an island or point with some boulders to the left ,right by the bouy.Anchor your boat in the middle of it,in the cove about 30 foot inside. The back of it is full of bluegills and right under your boat use a small bluegill alive on a bigger rod,see what happens, lol.A little further up the river to the left at Bass Creek,at both of them points use a crawfish colored whatever and you will catch smallmouth there.

Ahh, I see. I did fish that cove one time. It was a ways back though so I don't recall much about it. Hmmmm, gonna have to give it a try again soon.
I'de say the best time of the year for that first cove is anytime after April and night fishing is the best for "Giant" catfish.

Would you put lights in the water then? Do cats shy from the light or come in for it anyways? We were chucking cut up bluegill at Sag that night. I figure if I throw it out away from the lights then I should be good yeah?
Check this out.Yes I always use green light.I used to use them foam covered headlights that floated around also.Your submersible lights bring plankton, the plankton brings minnows then shad, then every bluegill in the lake. The catfish and big bass start tearing into the gills and if you have a live one sitting under your light on the bottow he is history, lol.Make sure you have at least 12 pound test and a 1/0 circle hook, you'll need it.
