We're finished building all of the crappie condos. We just have to go to the lake and drop them in. We should have plenty of help, between the Corp guys and the students that I round up.

    Default Bamboo

AGRIHAWG------Do you need any additional help at Lake Greeson putting out the condos. All I have is myself and a pretty good size flat bottom boat.

How far are you willing to haul the bamboo and how much bamboo do you need. I live in Mineral Springs. I go to Newhope from Nashville using the back road out bye the Nashville high school. Going this way it is not far to Self Creek.

I did some of these buckets for Lake Millwood. I cut the very tops out of the bamboo about 5-6 feet tall and very bushy. I placed 3-4 tops in the buckets and than poured the cement like thin soup into the buckets. When it dried I could pull the cement and the tops out of the buckets and reuse the buckets.

I also tied some bundles of bamboo together and put them in the lake. The bundles were very big and I had big trouble sinking them. I ended up placing about 100 lbs on each end before it would sink.

A big flat barge would be nice, does the Corps have one.

I have not revisited my condos, the lake is drawing down.

Holler if you need some help----

I have access to a 32' open-top pontoon barge that will hawl 6-8, maybe 10, condos at a time and I've offered to help transport to sink'em. However, I've not heard hide nor hair if they've been put in or when. If not, 3-month old dry bamboo will be pretty brittle and not last long in the water like it would when it is fresh. If you hear anything let me know and I'll lend a hand as needed.

I agree with the green bamboo--I have some that was cut a while back and it is dry and it breaks pretty easy.

Placing these condos in millwood they have to be a lot shorter unless you place them in the oxbows and they are hard to get into. Putting them in the river would not work too much current.

Darryl I have not heard anything about helping, I guess they have all they need.

We are gearing up around christmas this year for placing christmas trees in Millwood--The Corps is going to ask the public to drop off the trees at a centrally located area.

Sorry guys for the lack of updates. All of the condos were placed in Greeson at the first of June. However, I still haven't got the coordinates from the Corp. I didn't have a student running the GPS. This time the Corp took care of the coordinates. I called last week, but wasn't able to get a hold of my Corp contact.....will try again this week. Soon as I get the coordinates, I'll let you know.

Well when one bucket is 10-15 feet tall and 8-10 feet in diameter, they do tend to be pretty big. :D It's hard to realize how big they are until you see one in person.

    Attention...Attention...Attention

I have the GPS coordinates for Lake Greeson! Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you the file. The file is ".gpx" and works with ExpertGPS and EasyGPS.

We did build 80+ bamboo crappie condos for Greeson. However, there are only 45 locations in the file. I was only with the Corp while they put out the first half of the condos and I know they didn't take coordinates on each one. If they dropped two condos close (10-40ft) together they only took the coordinates on one of them. I'm guessing the Corp did the same thing when they went out and dropped the rest of them in the lake. I would have rather had coordinates on each and every condo. If we do this again in the spring, I'm going to make sure we get GPS locations on every one. Live and Learn.

BTW...If anybody does good fishing off of these spots and happens to take a picture of their catch, please send it to me so I can show my students. Thanks!

    Good luck fishing!

I also have a powerpoint file with all of the coordinates and maps for Lake Greeson. Although you would have to enter all of the waypoints into your GPS manually.

Just PM me if you want any of the three files:
    Lake Degray ".gpx"
    Lake Greeson ".gpx"
    Lake Greeson "powerpoint"
