Why Smackdown?

Seaguar Smackdown Tourney braid is the smallest and roundest braid on the market that I have tried and tested so far. It also beats the others in abrasion resistance and strength.

On the clear tape, the 12 lb Nanofil is first, then the little thing is one of my last colored hairs. The Smackdown is second, it is 20 lb. The New Berkeley 15 lb is next, and then the 15 lb Power Pro slick 8.....I think in the second pic, the 4th line is 15lb 832.

So what's it mean?
I can use a heavier braid, that is smaller and even stronger than other braids...the small size does not effect lure performance in the water. And 20lb line is almost the same size as a human hair....people can argue about using a leader, etc...but a dang fish isn't going to pass up a nice juicy Keitech because it's attached to a hair that is smaller than any string algae!

The stated rating for smackdown is much closer to it's actual breaking strength as compared to other "superLines" As an example 10lb fireline(25.3) has the same breaking strength as 20 lb Smackdown (25.9) and both, (10lb fireline/20 smackdown) share a similar diameter. Other factors go in to this besides just strength...all companies overstate size, strength, etc...each trys to show a superior line...that's while I trial all different braids and superlines. Just like fishing shows, some "testers" are not immune from sponsorship either...same as every companies new lure is the Hot ticket to catch fish. I test stuff myself, to improve my fishing...I have nothing to gain and I just give info to others to do their own testing!
IMHO, fireline is like using flat wire, it is not round, it does not has the distance, it is not supple or manageable...same with other braids.
I put the lines together to show size difference...with a thin hair thread braid like Smackdown or Samurai, I can pull boats around trying to pull free from a snag, or straighten or break any hook I use, it is stronger than I need, thin, and supple....I had 14 pound fireline, it comes on all Abu 1276 reels, it looks like rope compared to the Smackdown.
People complain about fish "seeing" braid, I was showing stated braid diameter's, etc, from companies are hogwash! lol

Again, it is a good line, If only comparing breaking strength, the diameter to strength ratio is about the same or just slightly better than most other top line braids available. It does have other qualities that are much better than others. 10 lb Fireline and 20 lb Smackdown are very similar in actual diameter, have nearly identical break strength. One is labeled 10lb one is labeled 20 lb, but the label does not make one stronger than the other, it is just how they are promoted by the manufacturer. Unless of course you are questioning the independent testing results that I posted on every braid I have ever heard of and more that I had never heard of until I read his testing results

I just got back from the White Allen show. Due to the weather most of the vendors were a no show; but the folks responsible for the fish fry were there! So were several speakers as well as many more show goers than I expected.

I use to read the testing done by Paulus and others...their testing is a good reference because of the games manufacturers play.
Lines labeled "Class Strength" are manufactured to break EXACTLY at the printed weight for competition and Record fishing...Lines labeled "Test" are manufactured to break at the MINIMUM printed on the package.
Companies continue to use "Pound Test" because that's how Mono was always marketed and they can confuse fishermen with the different tactics they use....the proper way of labeling braid or Superlines would be in the correct diameter of Mono and Class Strength...Pure Fishing continues to market their lines at a smaller "Test" even though their lines need to be in a much larger diameter class....Of Course, there is no upside to Pure Fishing to advertise their lines correctly...they want to tout that our lines break at a higher test but they don't want to put that line in the proper categories because of all the other drawbacks their lines have. Why would Pure Fishing market a 10lb Fireline, that is a little larger than a 20lb pound braid, and both break close to the same "Test"...because that is the only thing that their line has going for it....it is stiff, does not cast as far, digs into itself because it is flat, etc, etc, etc.
As I said before, Smackdown is the best overall braid that I have used so far, and it seems that it is rated just about right as a "Class Strength" line....but that's just my opinion!

Oh, and to improve on your superline knots, start a Palomar knot but wrap it twice through the eye, then finish the Palomar...it also cushions and improves knot strength...and it has been tested too!

With a much smaller crowed than expected there was more fish than those present could eat ... even sold a few pens! See you the 7th.

Yea, the plows didn't make it till around 3pm at my place, no doubt we could have made it to the show it was all the other drivers I was worried about, just didn't want to take a chance, plan on seeing you guys on the 7th, boy I'm ready to fish, first tournament is on March 20th at Rocky Fork it is going to have to warm up not sure how thick the ice is on RF................Doc

I at least spent a productive day yesterday....besides getting all my Spring CLEANING done, I finished clear coating all 350 jigs, and dyeing my Ice Out Walleye Keitechs.
Came up with a great Chartreuse Crappie 2.8...just the very head and paddle are Chartreuse the rest is white...looks really good.
