Brent,Keep us informed on what Dr says and your fishing time frame. We didn't go out this morning as they are calling possible storms so next week will be a go unless fishing IN the Marina restaurant do to high water stops me.
May all the fish tales you catch be longer than the ones you tell !

I wimped out this morning too. I can take rain but those downpours and winds like we've been having are a little too scary for this old man by himself. I'll see if there's a "window" tomorrow morning before we get the tag end of that tropical storm. I've taken nice Walleyes the last three trips so I know they are just out there waiting for me!

    See you out there.

Well, Mother CJ should have plenty of new and fresh water flowing through her...I had about 6 inches last week, with 3 inches yesterday....water temps should be consistent throughout.
Once the water clears alittle, it should be ON for awhile!

I'm off until July 17th, which is my next Dr's appointment...my cornea is starting to heal, and I'm getting my vision back...I'll be out soon!

Well, July 17 may be my next trip too. My Merc went toe-up this morning. It was the end of a generally crappy morning. I was up early but since the National Weather Service said there was a 100% chance of severe storms by 8:00 - 9:00 I waited around for a while. By 7:15 it was clear that there was nothing happening so I went on out. Everything worked fine when I went out and fished for a while. I had to go back in for a nature call and when I got back in the boat it started, coughed, stalled and then blew a fuse or relay or something else that I can't find. Now nothing works on the entire boat. I even had to go home carefully with the motor down and the skeg 6 inches from the road. The power trim didn't work, I didn't have a screwdriver to release the pressure and there was no one around to help lift it in any event. So, just as the Walleyes start biting I'm grounded for who knows how long. I'll be calling Stamper's in the morning to see when I can get her in.

I was out of town on vacation this week. We had plenty of rain as well. No boating, just hittin some old farm ponds. Deer flies, ticks, and skeeters seemed to hover around the entire time. Anyhow, I was just wondering what effect these rains had on CJ. Earlier in the year we had a lot of junk floating around and she was milky. Hoping to get out one day this week if work and the weather cooperate. Thanx. Good luck out there!

Hey Yep...earlier was when the lake turned over and everything on the bottom came to the top....normally heavy rain doesn't effect CJ as it does other lakes.
If she does get Milky the fish will hang in deep water and close to cover...but then she'll clear up faster than most lakes.

IF EVERYONE REMEMBERS....the last time we had an excess of rain was when we also had a huge outbreak of Blue Green Algae....all of the rain washes in all the surrounding fertilizers from the fields and lawns, etc.
We'll see if this continues to hold true when the summer heat hits!

I appreciate the feedback. I plan on making it up there Friday morning. After work. Wasn't sure how all of the rain filters into the lake. I pulled various aerial maps up just to see the flow age into the lake under normal conditions. Lots of ag fields. I'm guessing that the limestone and gravel bottom works as a great filter. Still working on that EYE that I've been chasing since spring! Good luck out there.

We went out from 7am till about noon with a water temp ranging from 75-79 deg and a lite wind.I had one keeper and a bunch of little dink crappies and one keitech that lost it's tail to what must have been a EYE and not one cat as we used only artificial bate as ether bate houses were closed or out of minnows.Dick caught his share of small one but no luck with anything that he could keep.Tried various humps bank ares and did a little trolling in the main area along with about 1/2 dozen other boats. Will be out again Wednesday on CJ or Indian unless Township work is needed,(little rain dance here!).

Finally got back out to Mother CJ from 5 till 9pm...she's up about 2 feet, but the water looks good.
They are dumping water out of the top gates and the spillway area smells like rotten eggs again from the algae in the top tubes.

Hit deep water, was worried early...tried all the normal colors with no bites...caught a couple nice crappie on the pumpkin chartreuse craw...but that was it.
Remembered, with it being dark and cloudy out, to fish darker...put on the black 3.8 swimmer, with a chartreuse niblet, and BAM, it was on!
    😆
Ended up with 72 Crappie, biggest was 12.5, most were around legal size, with a couple aquarium fish.
Also picked up two 16+/- Largemouth....72 fish on black, 2 on the craw...amazing!
Since I hadn't fished in such a long time, I'm just glad I remembered how to fish...it was nice to be back!
    Good Fishing To All
