The new Hummingbirds are supposed to be waterproof and are even supposed to float. I would reckon that a unit that would hold up for over 20 years would have to be considered a good one. I am leaning towards Hummingbird more and more every day. I am a coon hunter and plan on spending some of my fur money to buy a good fish finder. As for cane poles, my wife uses one I found at a yard sale. I use a fiberglass pole but that is because these days, they are easier to find than a good cane pole. I rig some of my fiberglass poles exactly the way I used to rig cane poles. I like to daub crappie fish and you can't beat a good cane pole for daubing. :D
my brother-in-law still cuts his own bamboo poles and they work great
