Those must be the dumb minnows I dumped in the lake last month. They were playing follow the leader who'se eyes were pierced by one of my hooks.

Seriously though, what it the answer to the question you asked? Why did they swim in that circle?

I hope someone will research and find the answer for you then. I thought you were pulling our leg. Did not know you ere serious. You usually are the expert in this thread. You might want to consider reposting your question and give people another chance to answer.

They swim in a circle because they are filter eaters. When they swim around the light it keeps the plankton in one area and they swim through them with thier mouthes open eating away. They are like Cowboys herding up cattle.lol,THERE.That's my story and I'm sticking to it !!!

Now that makes sense, more so than chasing around a jig.

Got the answer plus picture thanks to customer Alslabber
    C.C. member........thankyou
The picture is worth 1,000 words.

Lites attract zoo plankton, in turn attract minnows using a Reel Lite
showing the minnows swimming in a circle.

Why do minnows (shad) swim in circles?

They swim in a circle because they are filter eaters. When they swim around the
light it keeps the plankton in one area and they swim through them with their
mouths open eating away. On outdoor
shows on TV they show whales, and dolphins doing the same thing.
