Actually you do not need to put in the funnies or any other newspaper with a lot of colored ink. I have been told that....... Some of the colored ink is toxic to worms.

Ship, One question. I have an old cooler that size. My question is the pvc pipe that you silicone to the sides with holes in them. Do you have one connected to the other with 90's. I can't make it out in the pictures. Do you pump air with a little air pump through the pvc, or the air from the top vent goes in the top of the pvc through the holes into the soil. I want to make me one exactly like that. Love the design. I quess that was more then one question HUH> Sorry. Ken
Those vent pipes are the brainchild of G3. They allow air to get to the bottom of the container. They are on the sides only not the bottom. There are no drainage holes on the bottom for the redworms to escape either. Damp newspaper or burlap provides all the moisture needed. Check it about every three days. Redampen the newspaper, give them some cornmeal, play them some doo wop music and put the lid back on. Keep it in the garage out of the hot sun.

Thanks Ship for the reply. I will bring it up a knotch or two. I have the air pump and the tubing all ready. I will connect the vent lines to the bottom. I drilled 6 (1/8" holes for every foot. About 2'' apart. I have a fitting to attach tubing to pvc. I have a valve on the out side to control the flow of air from the pump to the vent lines. The pump is set on a timer. The timer has 2 on/off setting. I will have to play with the settings to get it right. I will hook all this up in a 48 quart icechest. I think the key to raising a good crop of worms is first, moisture, food and good air ventalation to the soil. I am working on this set up. When it will be finish I will try to take a picture, before I add the soil.
Too much air and you dry your bedding material out.......too much moisture and your material sours.....have to hit a happy medium here.
