    Default Black males. (pics)

Spent the weekend on Gun Lake and came back with a bucket full. Caught a ton of small females and tossed them back. The water temps were back down again ranging from 59 to 63 on most of the lake, a little warmer in the cuts and bays.

The big black males, and I mean they are BLACK, were all out hanging along off-shore breaklines in 12-15 FOW. These breaklines were off "humps' or submerged "islands", surrounded by much deeper water.

All the smaller females I caught were in 15-18 FOW near the shorelines.

They weren't much for live minnows, but they seemed partial to panfish assassin mini shads in orange/gold speck, and tomato seed patterns. They hit more consistently on jigs tipped w/ crappie nibbles, of course.

Nice catch! Those are some dark males. Mostly catch white crappie here in TN so don't see too many that dark.

you would do the lake more justice if you threw back the males and kept the females...IMO.
