Very Interesting Ed. Thank you.
But have a question now (maybe Moose can answer it in less then a page or two). What are OPAQUE colors?

Opaque -
Definition:
not transparent or translucent: impervious to light, so that images cannot be seen through it
That would mean black is opaque ... "smoke" is not -- dark blue is opaque ... "blue ice" is not. Opaque colors are just those that you cannot see thru. So TJ's remark, that opaque colors work better in stained/murky waters, is quite right. It's because they cast a shadow, or an outline against the incoming light ... making them more visable than a "clear" color, which would allow a lot of the incoming light to pass thru it. ... cp
Ok,Ok, I give - I'm gonna try some red trebles on my crankbaits.
I have considered it a gimmick up to now, but so many people talking
about it, must be something to it. One thing that has kept me from it
so far, I prefer Gamakatsu EWG's, and don't think they make them in red,
only the round bends - Has anyone seen red EWG Gammy's?

Hey crappiepappy, would a solid color of white be considered an opaque color? I have cought more fish on a white or creme color jig in stained or dirty water than I ever have on a dark color jig. I have actually cought more fish on darker colors in clearer water sometimes.
Yep ... if you can't see thru it - it's opaque !!
I tend to go with a "electric blue/chartreuse" tube (BPS Sparkle Squirt #12) ... because I've got the "dark/light contrast", silver metal flake in the blue body for "flash", and Chartreuse tails (& chartreuse always seems to work in all water clarities). To each his own, I guess ... as long as it works :D .... luck2ya ...cp
One of my "go to" jigs is a white head/red hook jig with a white/pink crappie thunder body. I tried red aberdeen hooks this spring in AL. One guy was using original brass color, one had black tru turn and I had red tru turns. We all caught about the same amount of fish, but seemed like I was catching fish at times and places the other guys did not.
For you that like to use the red hook and want your old hooks to be changed to red this is what I do. Buy a bottle of red blade dip by spike it. Just rub the hook between your fingers and dip it. Just dont hook yourself, the dip will rub off after awhile so ever so often you have to re-dip it. Cheaper they buying red hooks, also dont spill on carpet will not come out!
