#*$&%+$& mushroom anchors, I hate them, looking for a change myself.
I lost my best anchor the other day and need a new one. My old one was about 18lbs, rubber coated and had wings of sorts on the sides. I looked the other day and about all I found were the small anchors and the folding metal ones. I have never used the fold up ones. How well do they do and which one would I need for a 17' boat in high wind. What kind do you use?

Take a look at the digger anchor, cost about $100 but hear they are the WTG and no chain needed.
It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

This anchor will put a bunch of others out of business when it catches on . You will always get it back. Illinoisgiller
The spelling is actually richter I think.
Richter is a dandy anchor, but I can make a mushroom snag resistant about the same way. Tie the anchor line to one of the holes in the base of the anchor, then use a piece of heavy monofilament line to tightly tie the anchor line to the normal line tie. Works just fine that way, and if it snags, a hard pull will break the mono and cause the anchor to flip. Usually comes loose.
Most of the problems people have with anchors comes down to not using enough rope.
y'all are gonna think i'm crazy, but i use a 25lb plase from a weight lifting set w/ 100' rope on the front and back of my boat. holds me steady where ever i'am.

we make our own lead anchors round here. And the bonus is if you ever BUY an new one, you take the old anchor and melt her down. I have 2 on my boat. One about 70 pounds, one about 40
