    Question Keeping your own minnows?

Do any of you keep your own minnows at your home? If you do what do you keep them in? Where do you get them?

Yeah I keep my own minnows at home. I go buy a pound at a time. Usually get around 20 to 25 dz per pound and put them in a 10 gallon aquarium with an air pump with a air stone attached. They do really good. I change out about half the water every two days. I buy my minnows off of a local bait dealer. You definitly save alot of money this way. I have around 50 cents a dozen in them....

This sounds like the way to go. I have an old 20 gallon tank with a filter and air pump. Now all I need to do is find where to buy my minnows and I will be all set.

    Bowhunter,
Jenkins Wholesale bait in Rochester is where I buy mine but that might be out of the way for you. They are about 8.50 pr pound for "chubs" or "tuffies" as some folks call them.

10 gal aquarium, or a big cooler. I have well water so don't have to worry about chlorine. I just take out and add new water everyother day or so. the aquarium I run an aeriator.

I keep mine in an old cooler (found floating in the creek) with an aerator and water from out of the old well on our place. I have a pond down below my house and would like to build a cage to keep them in in the pond so I don't have to deal with the aerator and battery.

I have been checking into keeping my own minnows for some time now. I have a coffin cooler that the hinges have broken off and I am in the process of converting it into a holding tank.
I have found a bait supplier in Arkansas that I will be trying as soon as I finish my tank. The name of the company is Anderson Minnow Farm. They ship over-night and the price per dozen is great, unless they all die. But you have to order at least five pounds (70-83 dozen depending on the size and variety) per order. They have fatheads and shiners in all different sizes. They even tell you what you need to do to keep the minnows alive.
