    Default Smithville Dam Water Flow

It looks like the Corp closed the faucet on the dam. The flow rate is back to 8 cubic feet per second. As I understand this the normal flow rate to provide adequate water supply for Smithville and the surrounding areas. The lake level is at 862, normal levels are at 864, and the temp is still around 44 degrees.

In cooperation with the Department of Conservation, the Corp decided to lower the lake level by 2 feet. Last week’s release was to make room for the anticipated spring rains. They felt lowering the lake level by that amount would balance needs for water management and still proved a healthy spring spawn.

The Corp will close the dam gates next week due to an annual dam inspection. After the inspection, the flow rate will increase back to its normal rate. The dam is not expected to have any more large releases of water for the rest of the year. Keep in mind, this could change if we get above normal amounts of rain.

That’s all for now. I hoped to have given you a good report for this weekend, but the National Weather Service is calling for a 50% chance of SNOW! You gotta love KC’s weather. It is spring, right?
