Wasn't that long ago I was standing on ice.

Those are some nice looking fish. I haven't been out this year but I'm hoping to get out to West Boggs or Glendale in the next few days. Looking at today's forecast didn't look to promising.
I guess you wind adverse folks can catch them as well. Before long we'll have you so windburnt people will think you live in the Bahamas! Nice mess of fish!
Caught so many fish today my thumb is sore from clicking the counter.
Looks like giving you a fire to go fish, wind or not, was a bad idea.... for the fish :D. Those are some nice looking black crappies (and one white). What was the magic set-up and what depth did you find em in?

Here's the scoop for what it is worth. These fish were caught at Hardy Lake for you Southern Indiana folk. I started the day fishing river / creek channel timber and was catching one-offs. As the day warmed up, I switched to shallow water and found them in 2-4 ft. I went loaded for bear...even had my ice fishing tackle with me and was prepared to bobber fish if I had to (I never bobber fish ). I ended up catching them on my homemade hackle jigs and homemade pony jigs. (first time I have used pony jigs). The homemade hackle were glow heads with black hackle and I tip them with bee moths. The pony jigs were flame red or black heads, with various plastic tails...eg used a lot of chartruese tails, etc. . All were 1/32 ounce and I was casting. If the wind wasn't so bad, I would have even gone lighter. I tried 1/16 oz pony jigs...they were too heavy, falling too fast in the shallow water...went back to 1/32. In shallow water fishing I have often found that it is the fall rate of the jig is more important than the color sometimes. As HT said , these were all black crappie except one. I lost a lot of the ponies to the brush...so today, I am busily making some more of 1/32 size. On the hackle jigs...didn't lose many as I am able to pull them out with the green 4 lb. fireline I am using. One tough line. If you fish the timber , be prepared to lose some baits.
