Only wish I was there.
Boy, are my arms tired!!!
We (dad and I) hit the lake (Wabaunsee) at around 1:00 this afternoon. ### fish later, just before sunset, we packed it in. Kept my promise about C&R-ing a couple extra limits. You fellas who stayed at work were with me in spirit! :D:D:D Typical of Wabaunsee, we didn't have a ton of keepers, but we really didn't care because the action was so freakin' HOT!
We were in 15-18 FOW. Water temp is up to 48+ on our honey holes. Our pattern was to set up on top of giant schools of crappie and hammer them mercilessly for hours straight. I had one pole with a slip bobber, and the other pole was a dibblin' stick. I probably dibbled 80% of my fish today since it cuts out casting and reeling.:D:D:D I had tandem jigs on both poles and probably had 10 or 12 doubles. We caught most of them on Orange/chart or Red/chart tubes.
BTW, the bailey magnet and crappie thunder tubes from Cabelas are worth the $$$. They can really take a beating.
Dad's technique was to double-dibble. One dibbling rod in each hand. Funniest moment of the day (for me) was when he managed to tangle them together. A tangle is hard to reach on 12' poles. :D What a circus! I can't count the number of times I turned around to see him unhooking a fish from one pole while the tip of his other one was dippin' and diving. What a day!

Only wish I was there.
Glad to see someone else reporting and enjoying a good day of catching. Something that doesn't occur enough for me and the resulting warm fuzzy glow from those kinds of days sure gets dim between times.
Really now which was it the hot day or your fishing expertise or perhaps like my case would be just good luck. :D
Anyhow thanks for the report.

Man I am jealous...Sounds like everyone pounded em yesterday.
Thanks, LBM, but I think our success was mostly due to the weather and time of year. Anybody who found the schools could have been catching fish. The main factor was just the sheer size of the schools we found. If one side of the school got slow, we could find willing biters by just drifting down the break a little bit. When the other end got slow, we just eased back towards the other end.
I will say, though, that the dibblin' rod is definitely a fast way to catch them. I hang about 11' of line off the end of the pole at this time of year. I can drop right to the center of the school and then bring the jigs slowly back up towards the surface or swim them side to side. That usually triggers a bite pretty quickly and then I swing the fish up to my free hand, unhook, and drop my jigs right back into the school. When you cut out the casting and reeling in, you can really stack 'em up. A guy using that technique can catch 100 in an hour when the bite is hot. You all probably already knew that, so I'm probably preaching to the choir...
Probably next Friday I'll go back out there. If I have an empty chair in the boat, I'll open it up to a CDC'er. Fire off a PM if anybody is interested and I'll keep you posted.
I am just pullin' your leg.:D
Squirrels,
Would Love to be able to go except I am stuck in NY city on a project, but enjoy hearing others are killing them. Hope to be going to Grenada, MS by the end of March my friend tells me they have some nice ones there and if I'm lucky I will catch the spawn:D. Have you ever fished there?
CrappieKing; I was talking to a couple of crappie tournament fisherman down on the Pomona docks and they told me they fish about 20 contests a year. I asked them what their favorite lake was and they said without a doubt it was Grenda,Mississippi. Their last trip included a number of 2#ers and one 3plus#er! So it sounds like your in for a real treat:D. Good luck!
FAITH, FAMILY, FRIENDS & FISHING...... hopefully in that order but honestly, not always!
I have managed to venture to Mississippi every spring for the last few years. Amazing fishing at not only Grenada, but Sardis and Enid. Never had the courage to take a 21 foot bassboat into the shallows of Arkabuckle (sp). Haven't managed a three pounder yet, but my son and grandson who joined me last year came close........Maybe this spring.
If any of you folks are at Hillsadle, come over to B doack and hollar Sacolat. Honored to shake your hand.
OK, I screwed up. We are not on B doack, but C dock. That's what happens to an old guy who by Friday is brain dead. Hillsdale Crapppie King and I are slip renters and Mike, my son, is the guy who cleans crappie when no one else is catching them. He killed them three days last week off the docks.
