Just my opinion, and I've yet to try these so I could very easily be wrong, but here's my input. It says, these hooks are designed to "roll" your bait while drifting/trolling.

I like my baits to swim as natural as possible, and I've yet to see or hear of a fish do barrel rolls while swimming. Also, I could see this causing line twist, even with swivels.

I'd stick with a normal aberdeen or kayhle (spellcheck) style hook. Kayhle hooks are basically a semi-circle hook with a sharp bend where the minnow "rides" on the hook. These have always worked very well while drifting minnows for flounder and trout, so I could see them being just as effective for crappie. (not to mention a more experienced crappie fisherman I know introduced these to me for crappie the other day) I've yet to try them, but will when I run out of the aberdeens I have now.

Basically, you want your hook to set in the roof, or the corner of a fishes mouth. (preferably the roof of the mouth on a crappie since their entire mouth is soft.) Try different hooks until you find one that will bury itself into the roof of a crappies' mouth. Once you figure out the right hook and how to set it properly, you'll be surprised at how tough it is to remove one from a crappies mouth, and that's what you want.

Looks similar to the cam action hooks made by Eagle Claw. Wally Marshall has picked them up now at BPS .

I have been using these for years. Always sharp and usually hooks in the corner of the mouth.

simpleman, I bought several packs of small kahle hooks from a tackle shop at the coast a year or two ago to catch sheepshead with. I always empty the packet into a divider box and now I can't remember who made them. I actually looked at Dick's sporting goods yesterday for kahle hooks and did not see any. I will continue the search and let you know if I find them.

nope, I stick with standard eagle claw light wire aberdeen gold hooks in the #4-6 range.
