Personally I like long line trolling best, but also use a bobber in shallow water with a jig under.

Hello all, I am new to Louisiana waters. From California and Loved to fish streams and creeks for trout and cats. Some bass in our lakes. I really want to go after Perch! those little bastards look really fun to catch. I talked to some guys I work with and they told me use a bobber and a jig, slowly reel in and hold on. Went to buy some Electric chicken minnow lures and the baitshop owner told me to just jig it and I will reel in more fish like hot cakes. which is the way to go. Any info will be appreciated, I was Darbonne by the way. Any other lakes I should try. I know to fish flooded timber, weed beds, and structure. So, bobber or jig?

Welcome from Alabama. I prefer float and fly fishing best. I will use a slip float with a dropper jig beneath a sinker/jig.

May God be with you. Keep CALM and STAY ANCHORED with your faith.
I usually use a plain jig unless I'm fishing in really shallow water (say 5' or less.) Then, a float will help. It will allow you to reel more slowly and maintain the same depth.
Welcome aboard from Vermont!!!!!!!
I like a jig and bobber but won't hesitate to try straight jigging if they're not hitting the jig and bobber combo.

Welcome...I like to use a jig and bobber if theres a good chop on the water...if its calm I usually go without the bobber

I do both. When the water temp is around 40 or less and the crappie are slugish, the bobber method seems to work better.
