Me And My Partner Have Been Trying To Learn How To Spider Rig.
We Can't Figure Out What Size Weight To Use. We Have Tried 1/4 Ounce Up To 1 Ounce At .8 Mph To 1.8 Mph. We Can't Keep The Line Vertical, It Wants To Run Back To Much. What Are We Doing Wrong.
Roll Tide Roll with a crappie on a pole!
I never go over .5 mph. Slow down.

How far below the weight should you set the jigs?
I normally use 3/4 oz weights and pull a two hook set up with minnows, adjusting my speed until lines are just behind vertical. Things that will effect this will be line size, jig size, weight shape, jig shape. Some jigs with curly tails or other shapes create more drag as they go threw the water. Hope this helps.

I use from 3/4 to 5oz weights depending on speed and depth. If you want to be vertical with a given weight, just slow down until you get there.
I just thought to ask what type trolling motor you have, and if you've tried using a drift sock to help slow you down? I don't spider rig without it now, helps keep speed consistant. Does your trolling motor have infinate speed control? I gave up trying to troll with a 5 speed foot pedal.
