Military flag question.

I have noticed on tv whenever they show the troops up close that the flags on their shoulders are backwards. ie with the stars on the right and stripes running left. Anyone know why this is? It struck me as curious and I know there are some military guys on here a lot. Thanks for any responses.

When I asked that myself - I was always told it had to do with the
portrayal of a flag moving forward, advancing... as it would be if on
a standard. As opposed to going backward, or retreating
If they wore one on their left shoulder, it would be opposite,
stars to the front, stripes rearward. Could be wrong, but's what
I's told
