    Default Underutilizing boat potential

I don't get it at all. I was fishing this one lake near home in my kayak last weekend and saw that my fav. spot(standing timber on a dropoff) close to the landing was already taken by 5 guys that were fishing out of 2 fancy out of my fininacial league bass boats. Unlike them with their big ole engines, I can't go very far cause I dont want to be far from the landing in case something comes up like storm or distress. If i had a nice, big boat like them, Id go far all over the lake, and fish in white caps. Thats just lazy Same thing when I fishing under the inlet bridge from the shore when some tourons anchor 100 ft in front of me in a nice 20ft Pioneer center console boat with 150 hp yammie and just bottom fish. Why not take it offshore cause its made for it?

    Default frustration...

I can understand your frustration but when we go out and are not able to fish our "IDEAL" spots we look at it from a different point of view. Not so much as the boat itself, but rather they just got there before we did. Given the same circumstances, regardless of motor or size of boat, I would make an effort to get there before anybody else does. Most public waters are just that...public... whether it be 10 foot off shore or out in the middle of the lake. Personally, knowing that if a guy pulls up in an outfit like yours, I wouldn't mind if he fished right next me. Especially knowing what you had to do to get there.

Experience has taught me to always have an alternate spot to fish when other hot spots are occupied. Lots of places for fish to hold up on a body of water.

a good place to fish is the same in kayak or a Nitro. I m with drifter if you pull your kayak next to me im not gonna say anything I dont even say anything when its another bass boat but I like to talk to other fisherman on the lake I usually learn stuff from them.

I would agree with the previous two post about fishing next to the previously established boat only if the first boat was verticle or tightling fishing. If that first boat is out there fan casting around their position I would see the incoming boat as being a inconsiderate slob if they tried to set up within the casting range of the first boat. JMHO

Even if I had a boat that could handle "the white caps", I wouldn't want to be out there fishing in them. Most likely, I'd be fishing standing timber or cuts, coves, points and dropoffs. On Oologah, I usually drive to a ramp that is wind protected and fish that cove and that area of the lake. I have no desire to waste fuel to go "far all over the lake" as you put it. The ramp I launch at will sometimes have a couple of people with the little two man scamps out there fishing. I will pay attention to the wake I put out so as not to cause them any trouble, but if I am fishing the same general area, I will go where I think I have the best shot of boating some crappie. If I pass the guy, and I end up where he was going, how in the world was I supposed to know that? With the sheer size of the creek, I have seen times when 100's of boats are in there. 25' apart is not unusual.

First off, I'd say the anglers in the "other type" boats, were probably not fishing for the same species as you. And, in that regard, are not "competition" for your preferred species of fish ... the different species of fish, that all concerned are fishing for, are just using the same areas/spots/cover.
The fact that these other anglers are in high dollar rigs, and you're not, should be no factor in your quest.

Those same "other type/high dollar boat" anglers may have the same question about you :D ... they might want to know why you're in a kayak, on a large body of water, rather than on a small river or creek. The answer would be the same, in both directions ... that's where you want to fish, and that's where the species of fish you seek is located.

The size/type/HP of a anglers boat, is not always directly linked to how far or where they travel to fish. Even the big rig Bass boys are feeling the sting of higher gas prices, so they may not want to run "far all over the lake". And, none of them I know of, other than the tournament guys & Pros, really care to have to fish in "white caps" ... and the tourney guys & Pros only do it because that's where their fish are located, not because they have boats that can handle such conditions.

If someone is fishing a spot that I want to fish, and they're not obviously fishing for the same fish, I'll come back to that spot ... later. If they are fishing for the same fish, I'll come back to that spot ... much later. If I'm fishing a spot, and another angler is fishing for another species, I let them fish right on by/around me. And I'll usually start up a conversation and ask how they're doing ... and even offer them some info on what's been working for that particular species of fish (if I know, & the info is current). They may just say thanks, and go on about their business ... or they may tell me about some spot that is similar, that they've found, that I may not know about. Even if they are fishing for the same fish .. the proceedure is the same. When done in a friendly manner, it can lead to some positive results (for all parties concerned).

Their is a few spots on my lake that has public access. (Private Lake and have to own property on lake to fish it). By that I mean places along the bank that the association owns and has a dock to fish from for people on the bank. They are by some very good fishing spots. One is by one of my best spots for Crappie. If I am fishing one of them and someone walks in on the bank, I will give them the spot and move to one of the other spots on the lake that I fish. It is a lot easier for me to move to another spot than for them. I will check later to see if they are still there or have left.
