Default Dock fishing during the summer day

Do crappie stay under docks during the day because of the shade?

I've been offered to go fishing at a nice dock private dock area on a lake and wonder if I should set up for catfishing or crappie fishing.

set up for both, on our lake dock shooting will produce all year but its really good now. They like the shade and even better if the dock has brush under it

Is it better to be in a boat when your fishing, or can you catch them jsut as good when your ON the dock??

as long as your not stomping around it can be just as good or better to be on the dock, makes it easier to hit the sweet spot

One thing i understand, and that is shooting docks when temperatures peak!
fish will move out of deep cover to seek out these places. For a number of reasons, being cooler water temps ,along with these areas will serve as a ambush point for feeding crappies. Shooting small plastics or pitching a bober setup can be deadly!

I shoot docks almost exclusively during the summer.

Some things to look for. ( all strictly my opinion from experience on Alabama lakes)

    - The larger the dock the better. More shade.
    - A slow retrieve is best.
    - The dock should be close to deeper water.
    - Older docks made of wood seem to be better.
    - The best docks sit close above the water.
    - The farther back under the dock you shoot, the better.
    - Fishing from a boat is best because it is much easier to shoot your jig far under the dock.
    - Try different colors untill you get it right. Then it usually doesn't vary from dock to dock.

This is fun fishing. You should have a great time.

Try shooting them with Da-fly, from microspoons.com. Queenie has had excellent catches using them while dock fishing.
