fish cancer
I was wondering if any of you can tell me what this is on this bream I caught in a pond across the street from my folks house. It almost looked like a blood clot but was on the fin.
Soldiers and Firefighters. Some people were meant to call 911, Some were meant to BE 911

Looks like this stuff they say is a fungus, but they can get to looking really nasty. Some fish here have that or I think it's the same.
Don't keep them when we catch um.

Good call Pappy
Here's a quote from that link...
"Although the appearance of a fish with sores on it may be unappetizing, there is no reason to discard the fillets as long as they are thoroughly cleaned and cooked."
Maybe that's why we should try the dawn dishwashing liquid....I get it.

Very interesting.
I have noticed fish with these at reelfoot before, but this year there seem to be alot more. of the crappie and bluegill i caught this year, I would say about 1 in 20 had one. I guess there is nothing we can do about it on a large lake like Reelfoot, but I am going to conduct my own research and get an exact number (percentage) of the fish I catch that have it over the next year.
