We have used canned dog food, punch a bunch of holes in it and sink the can on a string so that you can retrieve the can later. This is supposed to attract the bait fish to the area.
Does anyone have any tricks they use to "bait" up crappie holes? I have heard of people sinking dog food and things like that.
Tell me your experiences with this, please!

Never heard of baiting up a crappie hole! Is there regs on this!! Ha!
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."
Most bait will only draw in catfish or carp. One thing that I've caught crappie around is
hay. I've heard that alfalfa is best. It takes more weight than you would think to sink a bale of hay.
good luck

It's only illegal if you shoot them. lol
like another said, this will attract mostly cats and other non desireables (no offense to catfishermen, it's just he asked about crappie peace!)
Alfalfa hay DOES work, I have done it. Last for almost EVER. It too will bring in some other types of fish, but not as many. It doesn't put off that dead smell that attracts the cats, it just feeds bait fish for years. Weight it heavy.
i have heard that you put the hay bale with the bottom half in the water and stake it down and leave it for a week or longer and let the bottom half become waterlogged. then it should sink pretty well by itself, hope this helps
I just used several cinder blocks.
I've seen people pour cornmeal in the water. Supposed to attract bait fish and in turn the crappie. Does it work? I dunno. It doesn't hurt though.
