Default First crappie on a flyrod

Went to a farm pond this morning before work and caught 15 gills and 2 crappie. After catching the gills I switched to a little bigger fly with a longer profile and caught the 2 crappie, 12" and about 13". Hard to get used to stripping so slow but thats the only wat they wanted it

That's great, Randy. Slow is the only way to go. I never catch any fish if I try fishing too fast.

Slow is the name of the game. I often take panfish most of the time when the fly is sinking b4 even retriving. Fun watching the line shoot-out.

Try a hand-twist retrieve (a/k/a figure eight retrieve.) That's my normal retrieve. I find it's a lot easier than stripping, and it helps keep the line tight.

Nice looking fish. It is hard to fish slow but I have found that is the most real way to present the fly.

Disco, don,t think I herd of that one before. Are you wraping the line as you go.

PS I had to change my fly a little, it works better on gills than before.
