Electric with long blades!
What type knife do you use to filet your cappie(other than a sharp one) electric or not? To me electric is so much quicker and easier. Whats your choice?

American Angler electric. It's like comparing a hand saw to a chainsaw, lol..... No comparison.

took me an hour and a half to completely dress out AND clean up after 27 good slabs. electric is the way to go!!
Life is what you make of it...
Electric hands down! I've been using them since I was 15. Once you get used to them you can filet anything. I filet 6 inch bream all the time...lol. I fileted 60 crappie the other day in an hour. And I still have two fingers left!
Electric here too. I have one 12 volt DC American Angler and one 110 volt AC American Angler. Believe it or not I prefer the 12 volt DC electric one over the AC one. I think it's due to the type of blade that is on the 12 Volt DC one and not the power of the knife itself.
BTW you really have to watch your fingers or you can cut them off pretty fast. These knives are not for the kids. And watch the cord too ... don't want to slice into the power cord either. LOL

Absolutely electric. You can fillet a crappie in less than a minute. I plug mine into the wall. Never used the battery operated. I heard they were too slow.
Anyway, once I tried electric I decided to never clean a crappie again. And my wife is happier because there doesn't seem to be as much mess and, as you know, when your wife is happy you get to go fishing more.
My hands are small so I don't like electric knives or most filet knives, for that matter. My knife has a beautiful wood handle that feels good in the hand, like a good chef's knife. We never keep more than a dozen fish anyway, so there's no need to worry about setting speed records. - Roberta

Electric for fileting and regular knife for cutting out ribs....
I won't be at work........I'm feelin' crappie today!
