    Default Desparately Seeking Solutions

Hey troops, this is just an outreach for some help in becoming familiar on the
use of the message board so you may as well click out of here if you're
looking for a fishing story. Sorry, I ain't got one today anyhow.

Thanks to all who welcomed me by the way.

I basicly am wondering this (or these) things1) When I get on the Virginia
message board and post a new thread like now, then I later see that there
have been X amount of replies/comments to that thread, how do I reply back
to an individual user? I have initiated contact with 2 users who came on to
my thread this morning- one by bringing up his profile and e-mailing him. The
other by posting a message to him on my own original thread. Is it normally
done like this- posting on your own thread? I have looked thru other threads
to try see what the normal protocol is. I get the feeling that I'm close to how
it goes. I think maybe in a week I can go back, click onto my very first
thread (or this one) and see what additional info users have sent.

I realize alot, if not all of you, are rolling around on the floor hysterical over
my stupidity. Go ahead. Get it all out. Just remember, stupid and ignorant
are not the same. And there's the 4 pictures on the dig. camera of the 2-10
and 2-13 crappie that I haven't even attempted to get aired. Yet.

My main problem is I just got this PC 3 wks. ago and I started out raw
computer-illiterate. So the procedures and all - I'm not used to thinking
or doing in computer-mode. So ignorant I am that I had the ol' lady call
Dell and give them a reaming only a woman can give over sending us a
PC that was supposed to be internet-ready and here we were needing
a cable modem to hook up. Nobody told me there was dial-up or high speed
to choose from. I mean that bad ignorant.

So if anybody is willing to take a few minutes to put forth in simple terms
what I have in question. I would appreciate it. I loosened up my personal
accessability so I can be reached without useing up the space on the
board or so everyone doesn't have to scroll thru it.

1 more question. When I post this it will come up as a new thread. This is
confusing. If I were to want to respond to someone's thread (original)
what do I do? Do I click REPLY inside the box at the bottom of that thread?
I don't want to show up as a new thread on the state message board
everytime I respond to someone and make a whole new topic out of it.

I won't make this any longer and I'm sure ya all are pretty much laughed
    out by now. Thanks fellas.

    Jeff

    Jeff,

There are three ways to reply to an open thread. Dave mentioned the quick reply. To reply with a quote, hit the little blue "reply" box at the bottom right of the post you want to reply to. At the bottom left of the thread, there is a "post reply" box that will post a reply without a quote. Both of these replies add a message to the original thread. Open replies are fine most of the time. We all enjoy reading them.

To reply privately, you can click on the person's screen name to send them an email or PM (private message). I only use these two when I feel the world does not need to "hear" the conversation.

Hey Dave, thanks for the tips - you bet it helps. I guess it will take a little trial and
error. Hopefully the frequent flyers will recognize me as a rookie and be forgiving.
I am a little hesitant because the PC is so unforgiving, once you enter something
it's a done deal, and I don't want to show up online being inadvertantly rude or
tick anybody off . Thanks again.

Hey man, that was what I needed. You and Dave helped alot. I had it pretty close
but was a little tentative because being new to this I didn't want to start off by
misposting or blowing into someone's conversation rudely, etc......
    Thanks again Keith, it's appreciated.

Under user CP there is an edit options link that will allow you to receive an email when any reply is made to a thread you started or a thread you replied to. This way you do not need to review any threads you will automatically be notified.
