Default I went up last year.

The bait shops told us there in get up bla bla bla. So we went up and no fish. The water was still alittle cold. Should have waited a couple more weeks.

Take a look at DNR Master Angler records. The up river impoundments of the Tittabawassee (Smallwood and Secord in particular) produce some of the biggest crappies in the state. I mounted one for a guy who caught it off of his dock at Wixom lake last srping...17 1/2" black. What a tremendous fish!

Forgot to mention...I fished Houghton Lake Saturday and Sunday. It was ROUGH and I could only get to MY SPOT for 2 hours late Sunday afternoon. I got only 2 crappies (13"ers). It was impossible to keep the smallmouth bass and pike off. It was really foolish(STUPID) to try to fish as rough as it was. 3-4' waves in a 14' boat had me fishing with my life jacket ON!
