I recently purchase a 55# thrust Minn Kota Auto Pilot. I hadn't put a circuit breaker or fuse in. How important is this technique?

For 3 bucks, I don't see any reason not to do it. If anything ever gets crossed or you get a surge for some other reason, bye, bye Auto Pilot.

It depends. How important is your life? It could be a life saver. BTW, a 55 lb motor requires a 50 amp fuse or breaker.

I wouldn`t run one without a curcuit breaker! I would think that would void the warranty!

Is this the same rule for a 50# motor guide w/o auto, just curious because i just bought a 50 from a guy for 50 bucks, it will surely bear the crap out of the 28 i had before!

I would think that anything electrical should be fused or on a breaker for safety. If something goes wrong IE: motor burnout or some other failure then the fuse/breaker will cut it off preventing fire or worse.
