Hey all-
What are the benefits of shallow water condos?
I'd like to put some out in between my piers, so I know they won't inhibit anyone, just not sure if they would be effective or not. Water is between 6-8ft deep. Would a condo that is only 2-3ft in height be worth it?

In the shallow depths would it be better to have wood stakes or boo and pvc??

Whatever you have...
Yeah they will work. Drop em and see.
Yes. And if you will put some at all depths under your dock it will help them even more. Crappie will spawn really shallow early in the season and gradually move deeper as the season progresses. Crappie want some cover around their spawning beds. Once the fry leave the bed they'll also have a place to live. Alge will grow on the cover and give them something to eat. Increasing recruitment and reducing mortality is what grows a healthy crappie population.

Gonna place a bunch of the flat boo condos in the shallows in the cove where they like to spawn, and bigger as it gets deeper. Like the idea that the habitat give the crappie a place to stage before and after spawn and shelter for the fry. Thanx, gonna do my part in cutting down the wild bamboo around here.

i'm gonna go ahead and give it a shot this spring. have to put my wetsuit on to walk out there and place them-gonna be cold!
well, its spring, and i want to start making these, any suggestions as to what i should shape them like? pics maybe:D?
YOU BET! Try using stakebeds 1/2 of the water depth. We use some 2' tall and less in anything under 10' of water and they work great.
