    Default I took the plunge...

... after my wife encouraged me to just go ahead and get a 997C. Below are some pictures of the installation and a snapshot of a submerged trestle in Kerr Reservoir. The transducer installation is the same as Cane Pole's; a plate over the old transducer holes using them to attach it to the boat and the transducer attached to the plate. I get good sidescan return and the 2D view is good to 20 mph. Then, I start getting noise in the return from the turbulence but can still keep bottom lock. The transducer is 1/2" below the transom to get it below some of the turbulence caused by the offset transom. The roostertail is acceptable.

My only fear is spending too much time looking and not enough fishing from now on.:D

That is the water column between the surface at the boat and the bottom beneath the boat.
