Wish you were closer, I could put you on some!
Hey all I live in Southern California (San Diego) and I want to catch some monster crappie this coming spring. I don't want to drive more than about a day to catch some. Where is the best place to nearest to me? I got a nice bass boat that is set up for Crappie Fishing and I want to get some biggins. HELP!!!
Wish you were closer, I could put you on some!
I've always heard that Ca. had huge bass, if ya'll have big bass it's would seem to me that you would have some slab crappie in the same fertile lake to.
Maybe find a big bass lake there and try it for crappie, that might work?
Good Luck..................srm
make a trip to Mississippi is all I can tell ya
Biguns only:D
The reason for the big bass is because they are the florida strain of largemouth and they eat the trout here. They stock the lakes here with 12 inch trout and the bass will grab those trout as soon as they hit the water. That is why the bass are huge and the rest of the fish are about average for most anywhere.
Get you a plane ticket, I guiding on Grenada in the spring.:D
Oh well so much for that idea...., Ms. is a little more than a one day drive. Seems like I seen a post and pic about a good size slab that came from a Cal. lake awhile back, but can't remember what lake it was.
Maybe you could run a search on the Ca. board or main board and find it, I'll
search it for you to.

According to your state records .... Clear Lake & New Hogan Lake hold the current record Crappie. Well, that is ... they've held the records --- since the early to mid 1970'sOriginally Posted by dr_duff
According to the most recent San Diego fishing reports ... El Capitan is the lake for Crappie (right now, anyway). ( http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports...16fishing.html )
Send a PM to "crappiencali" ... he's probably still in S. Korea (USAF), but may still be able to recommend a lake to try this coming Spring.
