Quesion on sex offenders at school functions
Hello all I have a question that I really need an answer to. We have 2 registered sex offenders here in Paducah, Texas and one has decided that he likes school functions such as football games. I saw him at our football game yesterday and went straight to our Sheriff and advised him that the City had passed an ordinance stating that any sex offender will not be at any school grounds or park within the city. Our Sheriff said that the law states that he can be at something like that as long as he is escorted by another adult (ive never heard that before). Well I told our Sheriff about the City ordinance and he said that they couldnt go against State Law. I then advised him that he was right but any city can not go against a State Law but they can ENHANCE one. Thats what most City Ordinances do. Well he ran the guy off since he wasnt escorted by an adult anyway. Well the big problem is that I found out that our Football Field is not in the City Limits so therefore is not effected by the City Ordinance. So if the Sheriff is right about the law, if the guy gets escorted by an adult, I may just have to get myself arrested because I dont think I could handle a guy that molested an 8 year old girl watch my daughter cheer. The Question is, can a School pass an ordinance banning a registered sex offender from school functions who is not a parent of any of the children? PLEASE HELP I AM STUMPED.

I would think that he would not be allowed within so many feet of a school function...He shouldn't even be allowed around kids..With or without an adult...

It does drive me nuts but I am the only one SO FAR who has stood up and voiced my opinion but I have always been that way but this opinion needs to be voiced. I have written the Texas Board of Education and asked them if there is some kind of rule. Thanks to all. dnmartin, my ANCIENT computer wont let me open the laws on that page. maybe he just needs a good talkin' too!!! Know what I mean? I am sure the laws are to protect the guilty..meaning him!! Get a few men parents together and it could just scare the he-- out of him... hmmmmmmmmmm I have one that lives behind me and he also window peeps...I have been trying to catch him.... he's a dwarf... I am waiting to catch him out in his yard and just have a good talkin' with him..first!!

Dad,
I would look into having several yourself included, filing restraining orders against him. about 1000 feet should do it, then position all the parents throughout the stands at all the functions and you would have it covered by saturation. I on the other hand might not be so law abiding!

The protection of your children is the issue that needs to be adhered to the most - I would be careful about any vigilante style enforcement - voice your opinion to the DA he or she can help as much or more than anyone to take the correct actions needed

Thanks to you all. I am definately going to talk to some of the parents and when I get my info from the Texas Board of Education and they say that the School can pass an ordinance, then I will, along with several parents, go to the next school board meeting and present an ordinance. If not, I will only have the FATHER OF 4 ORDINANCE enforced hehe. That will be my last option but I will not have a convicted child molester near my Children. I also agree that if one ever touch my Children then they will be facing Father of 4 Justice. That includes the filling in of one of the DEEP Cisterns here around Paducah hehe.
