Default Which is Faster...DSL or Cable?

I currently have cable and am not even sure what it costs since the wife handles all that, but DSL has a great offer. After checking more into it, and if I find out that DSL would be cheaper.....what you say?!?

I have been using dsl through my phone company for almost 4 years and like it well enough to stay on. It gives me 2000 kbps down and 500 kbps up which is great for me. I signed on because I was annoyed at the customer service from my cable company not because dsl was necessarily cheaper.

Cable is almost always faster. Go to http://speedtest.net/ and check what you are getting.

    You can also go here:

    http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

And I am sure there are other sites for checking your speed.

gaBowman, you might want to see if your local phone company now offers digital tv services that you can price and feature check against your local cable.

Cable is shared bandwidth with whoever is on that segment in your area, where DSL is dedictated bandwidth just for you. Whatever your neighbors are doing, or how many are on cable modem, will affect your performance.

In our area, the cable bandwidth varies at different times, and sometimes trickles to nearly nothing. Our DSL line has been rock steady, but tends to be less overall bandwidth than cable. Go with the cheapest, but if both were equal in price, I prefer DSL.

Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

For some excitment, read the next verse. A special guest arrived, they filled their coolers and had a fish fry on the beach...in the morning. My kind of people.- Bowfin
