Berkly 12 lb Vanish, the clear stuff - cheaper.
I used the gold transition stuff for
awhile, but just can't see the extra 4 dollars a spool just for being a
little easier to see.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have many "break offs"? I thought about using like 30# spider wire. It has about the same diam. as 8# mono but almost 4 times as strong.

I don't want to jinx myself - but nope, don't break off but in rare
occasions, like when trying to use the plug knocker by myself in big waves
and my patience gets thin. Far as on fish, not even the 40 lb blue last year
got my Bandit :D but only cause he didn't find something to wrap around.
I keep threatening to go back to power pro or fireline myself - supposedly
the 30 pound will give you about the same diving depths as the 10-12 lb
mono I'm used to. You have to make some adjustments for it though,
either more limber rods and/or looser drag, not jerking too hard or it's easy
to pull hooks out with it.

I don't do a whole lot of trolling but when I do I use Berkley XT 15#. It holds up well in the sun and weather and doesn't get alot of memory in it. I use the heavier test because trolling crankbaits here yeilds a few crappie every once in a while but mostly heavier fish like white bass and stripers.

I use PowerPro to troll with and for the shallow lake I fish in, it makes the crankbaits almost run too deep. I seem to catch more channel catfish than crappie. But, I like to catch channels, they sometimes have some size to them. That is where the PowerPro pays off, it is strong enough to hold the channels and stripers. Heck, I even caught a 12 pound drum perch on cranks the other day. I do run some 10 pound Vanish but I have had other species big fish break me off on it and swim off with my $5 crankbait!
