Should be a return spring that pushes the spool release back after it has been tripped, at least most work that way. Probably a weak spring that is giving you a common failure point.
I have 8 of the Grizzly Elite reels that I am having problems with. Seems the level wind works when turning the handle, but the spool is not turning. The button on the reel for the spool released has to be manually raised up for the reel to engage. What's causy this to happen and what is the fix?

I don't have any of those reels, but I've dissected just about every reel I've ever owned and that's a bunch of different kinds. It could be one or many different things. I'd pop one open and take a look. They could all be dirty, they could all have bad springs, etc...
If you happen to have the parts diagram that may or may not have come with the reels, then it will be simple to take apart and put back together. If you don't then proceed with care and lots of pictures.
