Dark water... use dark lures fished extra extra slow.
But, sometimes they just won't hit nothin.
Went yesterday to Lake Lucas for second weekend in a row. This was BY FAR the nastiest I’ve ever seen that lake. Even after the hurricane it wasn’t this bad. Usually this lake is cleaner then other lakes around. Logs everywhere, trash floating. Could not believe it. Visibility was inches!
I had a few light nibbles but nothing good enough to catch. I tried spinners and a bunch of color combinations. Nothing worked but I did notice one thing. All the nibbles I did get were right after I just sprayed the jig with slab sauce. Is scent a bigger draw then spinners?
Repeated this several times. Sauce got them attracted for some reason but nothing hit hard.
I did spend 30 min or more fishing 50-100’ from bedded down deer. She knew I was there got up walked some and laid back down. She was enjoying the sun on the hill. We just watched each other. She finally got up and walked over the hilltop. I tried to get a photo but none turned out good. I was closer then this photo shows but she is in the circle.
Even though I was skunked AGAIN, I had a very enjoyable morning. Spending time out watching wildlife and the water is so calm and peaceful and so different from the wildlife at my house...

That is some nasty looking water. One tip i have found in muddy water is fish as close up the structure as you can, basically right on the logs, bridge pilings, etc. Those areas clear first and the fastest. In deep bank situations (bluffs) i have caught fish more shallow than normal because the water clears and warms closest to the bank in muddy water conditions.
I feel your pain SuperDave, I have made 2 trips to Highrock and 1 to Badin in the past week and have yet to get a single bite. Went this morning and stayed in the Crane creek area. Never marked bait or fish. Tried some areas I normally do well at throughout the winter and nada, nothing. I'm done for a while. More rain forecast this coming week. Still nice to get out and enjoy nature but it's been tough lately.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!
