Hey guys, has anyone made a jig eye buster?
I have used the littly ones they sell that dont work
I made a tool with a pin for replacing pinned in Diawa bearings and was thinking of making something similar for jig eyes as I always end up trying to bust them on the water and it never goes well.

They have a small battery operated drill already made for this purpose. Works extremely well and easy to store in a tackle box.
Keep your creative spirit up though.

I make sure mine are open before I go out and sometimes when I bake on the paint it's hard as heck and regular eye busters will not work.
So what I do is before I put them in my box I put them in my vise and heat up a bodkin really hot with a cig lighter and stick it through the eye and wiggle it around to open it better. Works like a charm and you could do the same thing in you boat if you have a lighter and a bodkin with you.
I hate to show my ignorance one more time, but what is a bodkin?
I dunno, one I got yrs ago from Cabela's, never had any problem with
it even on tough epoxy - use the side of it to bust off the majority, then
sqeeze/twist the pointy part on the eye and it always comes out

I like my eye buster.
just put the eye in the circle part and line it up for the point to bust the eye. Then twist it a little bit to clean the paint off around it.
Turn jig over and do other side to get all the paint off.
I think the eye buster works just fine. It was a foreign langauge to me when I got it, but after messing around with, I learned how to use it. SWEET, need a few more so I can put one in the boat, tackle box, garage, etc.

I got an eye buster from Cabela's a few years ago. No problem...

a bodkin is a large needle with a handle attached and is used for several things tying. One is to pick at dubbing in fly tying, but more likely used to place a drop of glue (head cement) in the exact right spot. There are a lot of different brands, but all are still a big needle.

I didn't have a clue. Thanks. I can see how that would work well.
