When the water gets above 55 degrees, I go to cranks. When it gets below 55 degrees I longline.
I've been long lining for a few years and this past weekend I tried trolling with crank baits for the first time. I would say I was pretty successful for a first time. I'm now wondering when I should pull cranks versus using jigs.

I started crankin in Indiana when our water temp hit 51 this spring around May 1st due to the fact we had such a long cold winter thru March and April. In cold water, my speed to crank was 1.3-1.4 mph and as the water warmed up to where it is now, so did my speed to where today, favorite speed for me is 1.8 to 2.0.

That's true, Cevans was wearing them out on cranks. But I was catching fish at the same time long lining. So both I feel will work early, as the water warms cranks are a better option I think. Long lining picks back up later. I have my best months Dec thru Feb long lining double jigs.
