    Default Crank Colors

Looking into getting some crankbaits for trolling. Are there any recommended colors for Piedmont area namely Harris? I assume natural shad colored baits but anything else?

Pink, chartruse, fire tiger, black, white, half and half colors, crome, orange, red, any color will work on any given day some days they will do beter on one or two colors. Just remember the bottom of the crank bait is what the fish see, the color and design on top catch the fisherman. Sorry I have it bad, cant go in a sporting goods store with out finding a bait or three I don't have.

harris is usually a pretty clean lake but have never pulled cranks there, others on here have, you just gotta experiment, some days they'll suprise you, i have a ugly mud brown old bandit with orange eyes that one of the boys pulled outta the box and wanted me to tie on, we did and it has outproduced others more than once, but its real inconsistent on when they like it, i usually start with all different till the fish show a preference

I was told that black crappie won't bite cranks. Blacks are all I've caught on them in Tuckertown, HR, and Jordan. Black/Pink has seemed to work best though. Also the Strike King Sexee Shad.

That's strange. I've caught black crappie on crankbaits while bass fishing but haven't targeted them specifically with cranks. I assume if it looks and swims like a baitfish, crappie will eat it

Remember fish don't always follow the rules.

Not sure where the Black Crappie not hitting crankbaits thing started, but it couldn't be more wrong. I catch hundreds of black crappie by pulling crankbaits every year.

I don't fish Harris, though some lakes I fish are similar color/depth. I pull Flicker Shads a lot & do well with Slick Mouse, Flashy Pink, Chrome/Black, Red Tiger, Purple Tiger to name a few. Shad Rap in Glass Black color has also done well.

    Good luck & have fun!
