    Default the stories they tell

guy at the ramp tells me the crappie are running up to the banks. Ok, his story, says he has pictures, ok, fine with me, but I have talked to some very in the know folks and they say couple weeks off from a spawn, sure there are exceptions to the rule, but boys and girls and men and women of all ages they spawn on Stockton Lake Mo. is not in full swing, 49 dg water the last week. It ain't on by any means, a shallow cove or two, a lucky spot sure. wait two weeks, good weather coming, then tell me about the spawn, which I care less about, fish the spawn maybe 3 times a spring, not my thing. anyway, the crappie are real close on the lower end of table rock, close to the Ar. line, and moving north every day slowly, be patient and believe half what you see and listen to the old timers they know. good luck in the next two weeks. Ole beagle will be working the garden for a few days to come.

If you find crappie towards the bank in 49 degree water it means they are feeding, not spawning. Everyone associates April as the crappie spawn but 75% of the fish usually spawn in May. This year it might be June.

We get it every year up here where we can catch fish up shallow even as early as Feb because that's where the shad are on that particular day. People that don't get out much think that means the spawn is happening because people caught them shallow. The next day they could be back out in 12-18' of water.

    Nice fish Speck.

I had a guy tell me the spawn was already over in early April one year because none of the fish he caught up shallow had eggs in them anymore. I didn’t have the heart to tell him he was catching males. Lol
